With the introduction of UPI, India is going towards achieving a cashless economy. Now, our smartphones can be used as a debit card as we can send and receive money with just a few taps, quite convenient. It is a real-time payment system which means the money will be received instantly. We don’t need to carry cash everywhere we go. Almost all the shops, small food stalls and the vegetable vendors are receiving payment through UPI. However, people sometimes face certain issues regarding payment. For these kind of issues, there is a dedicated customer care team. People can reach out to them through UPI customer care number, BHIM UPI’s ‘Get-in-Touch’ service or by visiting your bank.
How does UPI work?
To use UPI, you should have a mobile number linked with the bank. Then, download a UPI-enabled app provided by your bank or a third-party app that supports UPI like Google Pay, payTM, PhonePe, etc.
After installing the UPI app, you’ll need to create a unique UPI ID, also known as a Virtual Payment Address (VPA). It may look like ‘yourmailaddress-1@oksbi’.
During the setup process, you’ll link your bank account(s) to the UPI app by verifying your mobile number and providing necessary details. After your bank account is linked, you can initiate transactions through the UPI app. You can select options like send money, request money, pay bills, or make payments to merchants.
To authorise a transaction, you need to enter your UPI PIN set by you during the registration process. For some banks, it is a 4-digit number, for others, it might be a 6-digit number. UPI PIN acts as a password to confirm transactions. After authentication, the UPI app securely communicates with your bank and transfers funds from your account to the recipient’s account in real-time. The funds are transferred through the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) platform, ensuring quick and seamless transactions.
If you face any problem using UPI service, you can also try out other payment systems like IMPS fund transaction. IMPS full form is Immediate Payment Service. As the name itself suggests, it works much like UPI system by allowing real-time fund transfer. However, it has some transaction charges depending on the bank. IMPS transfer limit is Rs.1 to Rs. 5 Lakhs per day. If you wish to make a fund transfer of more than 1 Lakh, this option is better than UPI service as UPI has a limit of Rs. 1 lakh per day. You can make use of IMPS fund transfer through Internet banking or Mobile Banking. For this service, you need to add an account as beneficiary and wait for 30 mins for the account to be added before making any transactions. Now, lets see some common UPI issues people encounter.
Some common UPI issues
Transaction failure:
If your UPI transaction fails, check your internet connection to ensure it’s stable. Confirm that you have entered the correct UPI ID or VPA (Virtual Payment Address) of the recipient. Check whether you have sufficient funds in your linked bank account. Sometimes the failure may be due to insufficient balance in the bank account. If the problem persists, you can also try contacting your bank’s customer support or the UPI customer care number for support and assistance.
Incorrect UPI PIN:
All the UPI transactions require a UPI PIN for authentication and security purpose. Sometimes we enter a wrong digit by mistake. If the UPI pin is wrong, the transaction will fail. So, make sure that the pin you enter is correct. If you’ve forgotten your UPI PIN, most UPI apps provide an option to reset or change it within the app itself. You can create a new pin using that option.
UPI App working fail
People sometimes experience failure in the App. It may be because of the device or the App itself. Make sure that you have the latest version of the app installed, as older versions may have compatibility problems. If the app still doesn’t work, try clearing the app cache or reinstalling the app. If none of these steps resolve the issue, reach out to the UPI app’s customer support for further assistance.
Delayed transactions:
Sometimes, UPI transactions may experience delays due to network issues or technical glitches. If you’ve initiated a transaction, but it’s not reflecting in the recipient’s account or you haven’t received a payment, wait for some time as the delay could be temporary. Do not repeat the transaction. You may end up paying twice. If the delay persists for an extended period, contact your bank or the UPI app’s customer support to inquire about the status of the transaction.
Invalid UPI ID or VPA:
While making UPI transactions, ensure that you enter the correct UPI ID or VPA of the recipient. Double-check the spelling, case sensitivity, and special characters. If you’re unsure about the recipient’s UPI ID, consider requesting it directly from them to avoid any errors.
